The Beginning Of The Lake Holiday Fishing Club
In the winter of 1988 Dave Clifton and Bob Schewe established the Lake Holiday Fishing Club. The stated purpose of the club was to share a common interest in fishing, involve kids and the family in fishing, to promote catch and release, assist in lake and fish management and to provide competitive events. In February 1988 the Bass was adopted as the official club logo.
In the summer of 1988 the first kid's tournament was held with 40 kids fishing around the Lodge. Also in 1988 Ken Clodfelter was assigned the job of District Fisheries Biologist for the State of Illinois Conservation Department and Lake Holiday was in his district. One hundred forty members joined the Fishing Club in the first year. The first contour map of Lake Holiday was created by club members in 1988.
In 1989 catch & release tournaments began. Fish tagging, along with creel surveys and computer tracking of catches were started by the club. A rearing pond was dug and the first stocking of walleye was purchased for the lake. Members of the fishing club designed and built the signs at the entrances.
